SCRIP:
Parents buy gift cards from the PTO. The PTO gets these gift cards at a discounted rate and passes the difference onto the grade that receives the profits for that month.
For example, February is Kindergarten’s month. If you buy a $100 Fred Meyer gift card, the PTO will buy the card for $96 (4% discount), and will pass the $4 to the kindergarten team. The percentage we get back can range from 1.5% - 17%, depending on the retailer. It is listed on the form, so keep an eye out for those retailers that offer more. Since we all buy groceries, clothes, gas, go to the movies, and occasionally go out to lunch or dinner, it’s an easy way to make money for the school WITHOUT spending any MORE money than you already would.
While you may not think this is much, just consider that a non-profit of 150 families can spend between $1-2 million dollars per year on food, clothing, and other essentials. If these families used SCRIP for these purchases, they could raise as much as $40-80,000 per year for their organization -- without spending any additional money. Fisher's Landing probably has twice as many families, so the possibilities are pretty exciting.
Hundreds of companies participate in SCRIP. If there’s a retailer that you don’t see on our form, check out the full list at www.glscrip.com We also have a SCRIP table on Friday mornings 8:50-9:30, where you can just walk in and buy SCRIP for selected retailers. Profits from table sales go to the same class that would benefit from that month's order. Which class gets which month's profits is determined by lottery in August at the first PTO meeting.
March is 4th grade's month.
