Beg. of the Year Math Facts Fluency

These papers were returned to students and are to be kept in the Corrected Work section of their MOON binders. The raw score is written as a fraction with achieved points as the numerator and the possible points as the denominator. The grade is circled and the other score (x-bar) is the class average, as some parents like to know how their child compares to their peers.

At the beginning of every year I give my students a basic facts fluency assessment in multiplication and division. This serves as a baseline so that students can see their progress as they make gains in math facts fluency. It is important to achieve a certain level of fluency as we approach more difficult math topics later on.

I have been keeping records since the 2002-03 school year. That year the average score in multiplication was 64%, it has been in the 30's and 40's since then. Also in division the score in 2002-03 was 63% with much lower initial scores since then. This year the results from the initial test are as follows:  Multiplication - 54%  Division 44%

The students have made a line graph to chart their progress.  This line grap was for the multiplication data only.  We will create the division line graphs soon.  They should keep these in the Corrected Work section of their MOON Binders
Let's keep the progress going!
