I shared a thought with some, that it seemed strange to allocate only 15 -20 minutes in a year to discuss what to me is a very important topic, a child's education. When I was in the business world I could not imagine limiting my contact with a client in such a way. We will also have some time in the winter for another conference and of course if you, I or your child ever feel the need, I am available to meet after school.
I will post some of the websites here that were mentioned during some conferences for the benefit of all.
Bookalike: Find similar books at the right level.
EXCEL: Programs for the Highly Capable Applications are due by Nov. 17 , please submit completed application to me well in advance of deadline so that I may fill out my part and turn it in to the liaison. Our building liaison only has until Nov. 19th to submit all the applications, therefore the sooner the better.
Family Support for Readers: Some suggestions to add to your repertoire.
Math Website's: Here is a "live-binder" of some math websites that may be helpful. If there is one that you and your child fine particularly helpful, please let me know. These are just suggestions and neither I nor the Evergreen School District are responsible for their content. As always, it is prudent to preview any site before allowing a child to use it independently.
Tutoring: Evergreen Tutoring Center
Washington State Board of Education: I just received this the other day, it was published 10.27.10. The turnaround time is very short, surveys are due by 10.31.
The State Board is proposing changes to our current high school graduation requirements.
They will review all suggestions and then finalize and adopt the new graduation requirements at the November 9-10 meeting. The Legislature has the opportunity to act on proposed SBE changes to the high school graduation requirements before SBE adopts its administrative rule.
